There are various drying methods such as sun drying, boiling, oven drying, spray drying, and vacuum drying, but ordinary drying methods are usually carried out at temperatures above 0℃. The products dried will shrink the size and harden the texture. Most of the volatile components are lost, some heat-sensitive substances are denatured and deactivated, and some substances are even oxidized. Therefore, the dried product has a large difference in properties compared with that before drying. The Fre...

I was skeptical about this book at first. It claims to provide a structure for any business to succeed, which seems like quite a claim given the differing complexities many companies have. After reading though, I was switched on to its teachings and can absolutely see how the system Traction puts in place can be broadly applied to just about any business, as long as the people involved are aligned in their thinking. Put simply, the author states "If you can get all the people in an organisati...

I recently read Stalingrad - the factual account of the decimation of the Russian city during WW2 and Hitlers 6 Armies encirclement which eventually led to its downfall. The book had been sat on my shelf for a long time before picking it up. There was something about the 500+ pages of pain and suffering (on both sides) that meant I had to be in the right frame of mind before beginning it. I’m glad I did though. Its a sad read for sure, learning how tens of thousands died in often awful circum...

I read this book a number of years ago after my first business venture had come to an end and I’d started to become more serious about developing a business mindset.  I’d started out as a designer who loosely wrapped a business around my passion to someone who was keen to learn how to ‘do business’ properly but lacked any formal training in such things. I was looking for something that would help develop not just skills but also some more engrained entrepreneurial thinking. This book really d...

Patrick Leigh Fermor is known to many as one of the greatest travel writers of the 20th Century, at 18 he decided to walk from the Hook of Holland to Constantinople, learning languages and cultures along the way - so already he was likely to have the kind of life that would have people doing double takes when he started telling stories in the pub. When World War 2 broke out, he returned to the UK and was comissioned as an officer on the General list, and thanks to his knowledge of modern Gre...

I was at the library a few days ago in search for something new but came home with something old. Red cover with an old painting on it, it looks like an old medieval illustration It’s my favourite kind of dark story with the Monster I still feel very passionately about, though I’m walking the dark side of thirty . Dracula. Yes, I’m a vampire lover. I’ve loved vampires since … well since I first heard of them. I was somehow always drawn to these characters and their stories.  My friends som...

Everybody falls in love. They fall in love with another person, they fall in love with their children, they fall in love with places, some people fall in love with things, some fall in love with money or power. I fall in love very often. I fall in love with characters, with stories, with books. Though my love is strong and passionate, I’m an unfaithful mistress always in search for a new lover. I roam the bookstores, recently more the libraries, sometimes my own shelves, rarely other peopl...

I’m John, hello. I founded Bristlr, and M14 Industries. The former is best described as the “Tinder for beards” and the latter is the technology which allows anyone to build their own dating app. I live in proper start-up cliché world; hoodies, stress, graphs which go up and to the right etc., and I love reading. Books about startups tend to be helpful, self-help, or seemingly unrelated. All are helpful. I’ve compiled a list of the books I like and recommend, all of which have taught me va...
